Tiger Woods earns PIP bonus despite playing in just 5 events: Report

Tiger Woods didn’t go winless in 2024 — at least not off the course.

According to a report from Journal Business Sports’ Josh CarpenterThe 49-year-old Woods surprisingly finished first in the final year of the PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program, which was designed to reward the players who generate the most interest on the PGA Tour.

Woods played in just five events during the 2024 season, with his only cut coming at the 2024 Masters, where he finished 60th at 16-over par. In December, the 15-time major nearly won the PNC Championship with his son Charlie. Woods also launched his Sun Day Red clothing brand in 2024.

Woods received a $10 million prize for finishing at the top of the PIP.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won seven tournaments, an Olympic gold medal and the World Heroes Challenge in 2024, finished in second place earning $8 million. Scheffler opened his season by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Champions League and the Masters. He looked set to win his second major of the season at the 2024 PGA Championship earlier being arrested before his Friday round. Scheffler was able to play his second round and shot a 5-under-par 66 to stay in the hunt, but a sloppy Saturday derailed his chances at the Wanamaker Trophy.

Scheffler capped off his phenomenal season with a win at the Tour Championship in August. In December, Scheffler won the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. He joined Woods as the only players to win the Jack Nicklaus Award in three consecutive seasons.

Rory McIlroy, who won the $15 million PIP top prize in 2023, finished third and earned $4.5 million.

The PGA Tour cut the PIP pool in half in 2024, splitting $50 million among the top 10 players. PIP previously distributed $100 million among the top 20.

While 2024 marked the end of the PIP, the Tour has just begun Player Equity Programwhich will allocate $100 million to the top 20 players based on various criteria, including some that are used for PIP.
