Thurman says commentary misled viewers, but replays show him under sustained pressure, taking clean shots and offering little return before the referee stepped in
Keith Thurman’s issue appeared to be with the commentary after he rewatched the fight, but the sequence leading up to the strike was clear enough on its own. By the sixth round, Sebastian Fundora was landing repeatedly, while Keith was giving little in return, taking clean shots without slowing down the attack.
Commentators are misleading… see with your eyes what lands? Who got hurt? One big joke! I miss old school boxing 🥊 pic.twitter.com/KQiC0YvRk9

The March 28 fight ended in a TKO after Thurman absorbed sustained pressure from Fundora, who used his length and reach to control exchanges and repeatedly land from distance.
Thurman’s face showed visible swelling during the series, and his output slowed before the referee stepped in. Fundora really looked like he was having the time of his life.
When a fighter lands at will, and the other guy is strictly in survival mode with no offensive output, the referee is basically just doing his job to save a veteran from himself. If you don’t throw anything back to keep a guy like Fundora off you, you’re essentially giving the referee the scissors to cut the fight short.
Fundora’s reach makes it seem even worse, as he can take you apart without even breaking a sweat. Reaction to Thurman’s post has been divided, but much of it is pushing back on his version of events.
Some fans agreed that the break came early and pointed to his history of fighting through adversity. Others were more blunt, arguing that he took clean shots without returning enough and that the referee acted to prevent further damage.
Fundora’s performance was widely regarded as decisive, with the WBC junior middleweight champion setting the pace and distance throughout the later rounds.
Thurman’s criticism focuses on commentary, but the decision ultimately came from what the referee saw in real time inside the ring.
