We published hundreds – thousands? — of golf tips on GOLF.com over the past 365 days, and that’s just a fraction of the total when you consider everything that’s also appeared in GOLF Magazine or videos or clips circulating on GOLF.com’s social channels.
Some are more worn or viewed than others, but there was one particular handicap or beginner tip that was more popular than the rest. The best part? It is extremely simple yet useful.
GOLF staffer Nick Piastowski wrote about this advice in Julybut we will rework it here. It comes via an Instagram post by Sam De Sira, an instructor based in British Columbia, Canada.
Hint: How far should you stand from the ball?
In the video below, De Sira walks you through his simple step-by-step guide.
Pick a club and place it over your ball if you are ready to hit it. If you want to know if you’re too close or too far, just drop your trail hand and let it hang. It’s falling closer for you, you are staying too far. If it falls FAR of you, you are standing too close. Find that middle ground and you should be comfortable. That’s where you want to stay.
Easy enough, right? You can follow De Sira and get more of his advice here.
