Everyone wants it hit the ball fartherbut actually gaining these steps is a much more difficult task. What is the best way to harness your natural power? Gia Lewskia teaching pro at Fiddlers Elbow CC in a Bedminster, NJ, has a simple exercise to help.
In a video posted on LPGA Professionals YouTube PageLiwski explained that recreational players tend to let their power flow when they allow their arms to disengage from their torso during the swing. Instead, it’s important to create the sense of keeping a connected feeling from start to finish.

To practice this, Liwski suggests a shorter drill, like an 8-iron.
“Hold it all the way to the bottom of the handle, just above the shaft,” says Liwski. “Put both hands on the club. Good attitude. Swing and aim the club at my intended target. My left arm will stick to my chest.”
Liwski pays special attention to the position of the left arm here, because it is the key to the exercise.
“My left arm is still on my chest,” she says. “Once I go back to deliver the club, that’s where the power will come.”
Liwski noted that recreational players often let their arm come off during the swing, and trying to reattach is where things can go wrong quickly.
“That’s when the inconsistencies start,” she says.
To harness your power, Liwski recommends catching a ball and thinking about keeping your left arm close to your chest.
Then all you have to do is swing, pass and bomb it. It’s that simple!
