This pro hits it 25 yards farther than the tournament average and he’s playing a $350 driver

Through The Players Championship, Gary Woodland leads the PGA Tour in driving distance.

He averages just over 326 yards, roughly 25 yards above tournament average.

But that’s not the most interesting part of the story. His driver is.

Woodland’s 2025 setup has it on the COBRA DS-Adapt X, a driver you can buy for $350.

Why Woodland is leading the PGA Tour in driving distance

Through the Players Championship, Woodland was the no. 1 on the PGA Tour in driving distance at 326.2 yards, almost 24 yards longer than average.

Michael Brennan is second with 324.0, Aldrich Potgieter is third with 322.6 and Rory McIlroy is tied for ninth with 315.5.

Woodland ranks first in clubhead speed at 127.37 mph, which helps explain why the distance is so high in the first place. He’s also third in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, so this isn’t just raw speed with no value attached. The rest of his game has been much less consistent. Right now, the driver is definitely the strongest part of his season.

Considering what Woodland has been through in recent years with his health, it’s great to see him leading the PGA Tour in driving distance now.

Where the DS-Adapt X performed in our testing

DS-Adapt X was part of MyGolfSpy 2025 Driver Test and, most importantly, it held up well when isolating faster swing speeds.

In the high swing speed test, the DS-Adapt X finished fifth overall. Produced:

  • Solid distance performance
  • Strong accuracy results
  • Balanced scores in all three scoring categories

The DS-Adapt Max K finished first overall for higher swing speeds—but the X still landed hard on the high end.

Takeaway

If you’re a high-speed player looking for a Tour-proven performance driver that also performed well in testing, the COBRA DS-Adapt X might be a good place to start. You’d be hard-pressed to find many other options with that proven performance for less than $400.
