Details are few, my friends, but good people Shooting range may have just taken a flamethrower in the launch personal monitor market.
In a press release so understated we almost missed it, Shot Scope announced that it will unveil its first launch monitor, the LM1, at the PGA Show next week. According to the company, it delivers the essential data you’d want from a launch monitor for data-driven practice sessions in a package the size of an iPad.
So why might the personal launch monitor market explode to smithereens?
Try it for $199.99 with no subscription fees.
seriously, are you kidding me?
LM1 Shooting Range: No joke
According to Shot Scope, the LM1 features a bright 3.5-inch color display and provides you with ball and ball speed data, instant smash factor readings, plus total carry and distance. It can be used indoors and outdoors.
“I used it constantly over the winter and during its development,” Shot Scope Chief Marketing Officer Gavin Dear, a former European Tour pro, tells MyGolfSpy. “His accuracy is phenomenal. We look forward to showing him off at the PGA Show.”
Shot Scope, along with Arccos, started automatic shot tracking and data collection. Since then, it has expanded its offering to include a wide range of GPS and fascination devices. The LM1, however, is a huge step forward.
Not to mention the fact that it’s $199.99 with no subscription fees.
At the risk of sounding redundant: Seriously? are you kidding me???
Do we know anything else?
Not much else, really. From what we can tell, it looks like LM1 only gives you numbers. We’re going to assume that, for $199.99, there’s no GUI or any kind of shot tracking.

We’re also not sure if it integrates with any other Shot Scope products, but the press release messages sound ominous. He says this is “the first step in (Shot Scope’s) evolution toward a seamless, 360° product ecosystem on and off the course.”
There is a growing trend in golf technology that links launch monitor data to shot tracking and actual play on the course. FlightScope’s i4 range finder is designed to integrate with Mevo Gen2 Boot Monitor and its app (for weather conditions) to serve as a caddy on the course. Last September, Arccos introduced it Smart laser finderwhich integrates your Arccos data with weather conditions.
We are sure that more integrated ecosystem-type products will be introduced in the coming weeks.
Yes, we almost forgot…
Shot Scope is also launching two other products at the PGA Show. Both sound good, but neither screams like the LM1.
First up is a handheld GPS device that Shot Scope is calling the H50. It may sound old-fashioned, but some golfers still don’t like wearing a GPS watch or carrying their phone around. The H50 features full hole maps and green contour maps.
The second is a GPS speaker called LoopOne. It’s a GPS/Bluetooth speaker combo. It includes interactive course maps, detailed data and immersive audio.
No word on pricing at the moment, but we’ll find out.
And you can be sure we’ll be checking out the LM1 first thing when we get to the PGA Show next Wednesday.
