Most weekend players tend to stay in the swing, or “throw” the club too early. Culprits: not enough body curve or weight shift in decline.

To help three of his students swing and transfer their weight better, Top 100 GOLF teacher Tony Ruggiero used these simple tips

3 exercises to improve weight transfer in the golf swing

Try this: Take a swing, carving a split next to your trail leg. Yes, your trail leg. Take another swing, digging another split right in front of the first. Continue doing this for six more swings, producing a split just before the last in a semi-circle pattern, mimicking the proper swing path, as you see in the photo above.

Of course, you will learn how to navigate landing sequence and body movement to get each compartment in the right place. Sure, it’s overdoing things a bit, but this drill gives you all the right feel to produce high-compression impact without hanging. Now, pass the division seed.

Brech Spradley is one GOLF Top 100 Teachers and owner and director of instruction at Barton Creek Golf Academy in Austin.
