Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has weighed in on Mikel Arteta’s tenure as head coach, expressing concerns over the club’s lack of silverware despite consistent top-tier performances. Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Henry acknowledged Arteta’s progress but emphasized that Arsenal should have secured at least one major trophy in recent seasons.
“I’m not saying that I’m disappointed with Arsenal, but it’s normal that people are raising questions now about what the team is doing,” Henry stated. He pointed out that while Arteta has transformed Arsenal into a competitive force, the club has failed to reach a final in the past three years.
Henry drew comparisons with Manchester United, noting their success in cup competitions: “Manchester United have played in five finals in the last five years, the United that everyone laughs at, whereas for Arsenal in the last three years of building, they’ve not reached a final”.
The former Arsenal striker also urged the club to sign a proper No. 9, arguing that a dedicated striker could be the missing piece in Arteta’s tactical setup. “Everyone has been screaming for a No. 9, apart from when we win,” Henry remarked, highlighting the inconsistency in Arsenal’s attacking options.
Despite his concerns, Henry acknowledged Arteta’s efforts in reshaping the squad and implementing his vision. However, he believes that the time has come for Arsenal to convert their progress into tangible success.
