Add PXG to this list of companies releasing special editions this week. Unlike some of the other Black Friday players out there, the PXG Tour Series Brandon and Brandon 2 are not finished in black.
I feel like PXG, who are known for making black oysters and sticks, are messing with us a bit by not making these black. I think it’s good marketing to surprise the consumer every now and then.
The fact that these paws aren’t black is just one of the surprises. The other surprise is that they are 100% milled.
PXG Precision Milling
PXG is known for many things. Making expensive gear, in-your-face marketing, and dedication to current and former military personnel and first responders. There is another quality that golfers should associate with the PXG, and that is the precision construction.
The build quality of PXG stakes is right up there with the best golf companies. As a company, PXG has a larger-than-life persona, but their barrel builders pay attention to the small details.
For example, if you take a close look PXG Allan and you’ll find that every edge is sharp and no component or contour looks unfinished. From the diamond pattern on the face to the ball-grabbing ridges on the bottom, the PXG Allan is a master class in high-quality construction.
I point this out because some of you may be wondering what makes Series Tour groups worth exploring. These mags aren’t complicated multi-material designs like those of the PXG Battle Ready 2. Instead, these mags show off what PXG can do with a piece of metal and a CNC mill.
Although it is a term that is often overused, I would describe the grind as pure. The edges are perfect to the micrometer, as are the tone mill marks on the face. Tolerances in the PXG tournament series are tight. I would agree with the people who say that PXG isn’t bringing anything new to the design landscape with these. The two heads are fairly standard designs.
What PXG has done is execute the designs very well. As someone who has seen a double barrel, PXG got the metal cutting memo with these.
Which is it for you, Brandon or Brandon 2?
You may be wondering which of the Brandon Series Tour models is right for you. Thankfully, PXG went with the industry norm for these in terms of naming. If you think Newport vs. Newport 2 or Anser vs. Anser 2, you will have a solid reference for your Brandon vs.
Brandon is a classic form of Anser. The rear bumpers are rounded, as are the corners. Of the two, this barrel sits slightly thicker and more curved than the Brandon 2.
The Brandon 2 is a slightly thinner and longer blade. Overall, the design is much more square than Brandon. The bumpers are square, as is the intake. Even the slope behind the back on the Brandon 2 is much more angular than the Brandon’s.
Both models will suit a similar player, someone who prefers a blade and has a light bow stroke. Player preference is likely to emerge when contour differences are observed at address. If you like to see curves, you go to Brandon. If square edges are more your thing, you’ll prefer the look of the Brandon 2.

This fall has been full of surprises. Based on the standard set by them Ready for battle 2 and Allan putter, I didn’t foresee PXG releasing fully milled 303 stainless steel irons. There’s not a drop of S-COR polymer in there, and the faces are fly milled, not pyramid milled.
I suppose the story should be more about what they are than what they are not. After all, these are very nice milled gauges. PXG has designed the Brandon and Brandon 2 in such a way that they meet the expectations of classic design while still feeling very PXG.
Yes, I’m talking about all the skulls.
Will these be the first of a bunch of Tour Series teams, or are these two just PXG showing us what they’re capable of? For that, I don’t have an answer.
