Hartford, WIS. – When the high bronze of the USGA met with the press in Erin Hills At the beginning of this week, one word continued to come out. TRIAL.
“This is a big golf course,” said Shannon Rouillard, senior director of the USA Championship. “Will test players mentally and physically.”
CEO added Mike whan: “If the wind blows here, every club will be cleaned at the bottom and tired mentally. It will make you think of every blow, and it’s a major.”
Clubdo club may be polluted this week in Wisconsin, but those with head coverings are likely to get more work than most. Think Woodws Fairway. Hybrids. Undoubtedly drivers. At 6.829 yards, the opening of this week’s women in the US will be played in the second longest appearance in the championship history. (The longest, broadmoor, decreases at an altitude of 6,230 meters above sea level.)
“Definitely is obviously a really great course,“ accepted 2023 Open Women’s Champion in the US Allisen Corpuz. “I hit a lot more hybrids and forests than I would have liked to go out to the greens.”
Property size is a common observation in Erin Hills this week. From raising the hills to the surface of the greens to the distance between the holes, everything is felt massive. And after the rain moistens the course for most of the day during Wednesday practice rounds, the course length will only be enlarged.
With the full rate of the course in mind, the distance away from tee will come with a premium, as well as the ability to hit the greens from a long distance. Need some convincing? Just take a look at the manager’s table since the last time US Open was received here in 2017.
The player who ended up at the top of the leader that week, Brooks Koepka, was ranked within the top 20 in PGA Tour that season at the distance of the car and the proximity to the hole of> 200 yards. Hideki Matsuyama, who ended up for the second, was ranked within 30 leaders in both statistics while Rickie Fowler, who scored a T5, was ranked within 40 best in both categories. In fact, from the players who ended 10 balls that week, only three (Brian Harman, Bill Haas and Brandt Singeker) did not finish the season in the Top 40 in SG tours: driving or proximity of> 200 yards.
Does what does this mean for players competing in this edition of US Open women? For starters, you need to be able to run the ball extremely well, which does good for players like Nellly Korda, Charley Hull, Minjee Lee and Jeeno Thitikul. Also, having a supreme command of long handcuffs and hybrids will be a premium skill. Think Megan Khang, NASA Hataoka, Jin Young KO and Lauren Coughlin.
“Already any part of your game will be tested,” said Asterisk Talley, who ended up low amateur at Open Women of Women last year. “But now those long handcuffs come into the game.”
There is no guarantee for the sample to come Sunday evening will be a bomber or someone who has a distance precision – but if the story is any indicator, that would be a very good bet.
