David Banavidez believes Terence Crawford pushes the boundaries by moving three weight classes to fight Canelo Alvarez for his four super -middleweight titles on Saturday, September 13.
Dangers of weight class jump
The WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Banavidez says he knows that Crawford has excellent skills, but feels that the jump against three divisions is too much.
Benavidez says it would be the same if he preferred to move to Heavyweight to tackle Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. He believes he might win, but if they hit him, it could be bad for him.
“Because Crawford arrives three weight classes. I’m not saying he can’t hurt him, but three weight classes are different,” David Benavidez said Ring magazine About why he believes that Canelo Alvarez will defeat Terence Crawford on Saturday.
It would have made more sense for Crawford to stop at 160 and take a few fights against top fighters in that weight class first. If he did well in that section, then go to 168 to take a few battles before fighting against Canelo.
However, that would be impossible. Crawford is only fighting once a year. So it could take him four years to get the four fights. By then, Canelo would probably have retired, and he would be too old to do against someone anyway.
“You never want to count Terence Crawford, but there are weight classes for a reason,” says Benavidez.
‘The Mexican monster’ benavidez makes a good point. The weight classes are in place to protect fighters, not to prevent them from making money to fight more popular fighters. Setting up three sections may ask for problems.
Money about legacy?
Crawford goes a lot above the division, and he has had his best success, welter weight, and it is difficult to buy his rationale to set three weight classes.
Terence says he goes for heritage purposes. I believe that Crawford’s total focus on the money he gets, because he never showed an ambition to move up to 168 when Benavidez and David Morrell titles held. Crawford was not interested in moving up until Canelo was the one who held the belts.
“They found me as the underdog. It doesn’t matter to me. We have to go there and act, ‘Crawford said Ring magazine When asked if it bothers him that he is the underdog against Canelo. “I’m going to go there and win regardless.”
It is true that Crawford and Canelo still have to fight to determine who the better man is Saturday. But it should still worry Crawford in the back of his mind that the chances of his chances of winning probably view his last action against Israil Madrimov and use it as a partner in their choices.
The point of diminishing returns
Crawford has performed strikingly well with three divisions since his career started with lightweight in 2007. But there is a point of diminishing returns where even a wonderful like Crawford will find that he has a point where it has too much weight. He was not cut out to compete in such a section. 168 is perhaps the point.
“It’s definitely something that drives me,” Crawford says about the under dog. “Smooth,” Terence said when he said he didn’t want people to say that Canelo was over the hill after beating him. “Come on Saturday, we’re going to have fireworks.”
The way Canelo acted in his last three fights is impossible not to deduce that he is over the hill. He did not lose the three fights, but he did not stand up to high -level fighters. His last three fights were against William Scull, Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. If Canelo fought these Super mid -weights, chances are he lost:

Why Crawford’s victory can discredit
If Crawford wins on Saturday, there will still be many fans who will discredit his victory and say that Canelo is a faded power from 20 years as a pro. They would be correct. He is not the fighter he was once four years ago when he beat Caleb Plant to be unwilling for the first time on November 6, 2021.
