The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a major update on player ratings. Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 ahead of the mega auction.
According to reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the franchises can divide the capped retention pot of 75 Crore among the 5 capped players as they wish.
Retention plates for IPL 2025
The retainer boards for IPL 2025 are structured as Rs 18 crore for No. 1 player, Rs. 14 crore for No. 2 player, Rs. 11 crore for No. 3 player, Rs. 18 crore for No. 4 player and Rs. 14 crore for No. 4 player. For player number 5. But the franchisees have been given complete freedom over the budget of 75 crores to collect among the owners.
However, reports also claimed that while franchises can pay players any amount within these limits, if the actual payment exceeds the allocation, the excess amount will be deducted from the auction purse.
IPL 2025 retention rule
The actual retention rule for IPL 2025 reads (as quoted by Cricbuzz): “Deduction of total amount retention instead of payment for each player being Rs.75 Crs regardless of the amount paid to 5 players in this case. If the total amount is more than Rs.75 Crs 75 Crs is deducted if the actual amount is less than 75 Crs.”
SRH will retain Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma for IPL 2025
An example of franchises that have complete freedom over their money is the holding of Sunrisers Hyderabad. According to information, the franchise will be maintained Heinrich KlaasenPat Cummins and Abhishek Sharma With Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
SRH will reportedly spend INR 23 crores on Heinrich Klaasen, which is 5 crores more than the opener’s retainer tag of 18 crores. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been sensational for the team since joining the team, scoring close to 1000 runs in 35 IPL matches. He scored 479 runs from 15 overs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 171.07.
Reports, on the other hand, claimed that Pat Cummins will be the second retainer and will be retained at INR 18 crore, while Indian all-rounder Abhishek Sharma, who will be the third retainer, will remain with the team at INR 14 crore.
It has also been learned that Travis Head will remain in the team. Visakhapatnam’s Nitish Kumar Reddy, who won the India cap earlier this month, will also be retained.
All five players were outstanding for SRH last year. Skipper Cummins scored 18 while Abhishek scored 484 runs in 16 games with a strike rate above 200. Head, on the other hand, was the team leader in the tournament and third on the orange caps list.
Nitish Reddy finished the tournament with 303 runs at 142.92 and three wickets. He recently made his debut for India in a T20I series He scored 74 for 34 in his second match against Bangladesh.
