The Chicago White Sox continue to sink deeper and deeper into new levels of futility never before seen in the sport of baseball and now sport a horrendous 31-109 record amid a 12-game losing streak that threatens to define their season. MLB record for most losses in a season.
Tuesday night’s 9-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles featured an embarrassing misfire that typified the season the Southsiders have had.
With the bases loaded and a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with two outs, former White Sox shortstop Eloy Jimenez lifted a pop-up into shallow left field as third baseman Miguel Vargas, left fielder Andrew Benintendi and shortstop Jacob. Amaya all combined to make the catch, but Vargas took charge and didn’t yield to Benintendi and immediately ran into him, forcing the ball to fall and all three basemen to score.

Orioles announcer Kevin Brown summed it up perfectly when he said. “Oh my god! The White Sox just went full White Sox.”
Anyone who has played baseball knows it was Benintendi’s ball, and he was in great position for an easy catch, but Vargas was too fired up and didn’t make enough contact before hitting him.
Vargas soon left the game after suffering a black eye after colliding with Benintendi’s shoulder.
Chicago is now 4-38 since the All-Star break and must go 12-10 the rest of the way to avoid matching the all-time record of 120 losses in a season held by the 1962 New York Mets.
