When you have a season like the 2024 Chicago White Sox, every day is a new day for an embarrassing record of unprecedented futility.
Once again, the White Sox set another horrible record yesterday, officially ending any chance of making the most historic comeback of all time this season.
According to Jessica Brand of Baseball Reference , the White Sox were officially eliminated from postseason contention with a 6-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Saturday, the earliest calendar date in not just the Wild Card era, but the division era.
Today is August 17th and the Chicago White Sox are now mathematically out of playoff contention.
This is the earliest calendar date elimination not only in the wild card era, but also in the division era.

The 30-94 White Sox are currently 40.5 games out of the AL Central race and 38.5 games out of the Wild Card with just 38 games remaining.
The White Sox had won three of their last eight games following their historic 21-game losing streak, but Saturday’s loss officially ended the comeback of the century.
It’s hard to pinpoint a point where the team needs to improve next season because the reality is that this team is bad in every way.
The Sox are 30th in the league in runs scored, 65 behind the second-to-last place Miami Marlins in that category, while also ranking 29th in team ERA at 4.85, ahead of only the Colorado Rockies.
Coming off a 21-game losing streak just days after setting this horrendous record, Sox fans have to hope the embarrassment stops soon and the team can heat up before setting the most embarrassing record of them all for worst record in the modern era and/or most losses in a season.
