The updated P4P of the Ring: Terence Crawford increases no. 1, overlooking U.Syk’s more impressive record of unification and dominance

Terence Crawford has been raised to #1 in the ring’s updated pound-by-pound ratings today after his victory over the undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez last Saturday night at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The panel of the ring placed Crawford (42-0, 31 COs) above the previous #1 Oleksandr Uykyk on the top position on the pound-for-pound ranking. It is a pure subjective choice through the panel, but it doesn’t make much sense.

U USYK’s victories against Crawford’s farm

I do not believe Crawford deserves to be in the top 5, as his victories have not been good enough for the past five years. In the past five years, since 2020, Crawford has beaten these fighters:

• Canelo Alvarez
• Israil Madrimov
• Errol Spence: After car accident
• David Avanesyan
• Shawn Porter
• KELL BROOK: *After loss to Gennadiy Golovkin

Alvarez, 35, has already shown signs of fading since his loss of Dmitri Biblical in 2022, and he looked like a broken shell of his old self in his last three fights against these fighters: William Scull, Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia.

It is understandable that boxing fans on social media are angry that utilityky is demoted by the ring staff because he has achieved much more than Crawford by cleaning the heavyweight division by defeating these three: Anthony Joshua x 2, Tyson Fury X 2 and Daniel Dubois.

Why Crawford does not earn #1

• Did not clear the division of 168 pounds: Crawford only beat Canelo at 168. This is Bud’s only battle at Super Mid -Light. He did not clear the division as Ulsyk has heavyweight and Naoya Inoue is at Super Bantamweight. For Crawford to semen himself as the best at 168, he will have to beat these fighters: Christian Mbilli, Osleys Iglesias, Hamzah Sheeraz, Diego Pacheco and Lester Martinez.
• Not active enough: Fighting only once a year since 2020 is not good enough for a fighter to be moved to the number 1 place in any rating organization.
• Calculated match: Crawford fought only once at 154 against Israil Madrimov, and did not fight these talents: Abass Baraou, Jaron Ennis, Vergil Ortiz Jr., Sebastian Fundora or Bakhram Murtazaliev. At Super Middle Weight, Terence has not yet fought one of the top contenders. Again, his only battle against a faded, endurance-riddled Canelo.

The performance by Crawford was not the dominance that some fans mistakenly believe it would be. It was a very close struggle, and it could have gone to the other way, because Terence only left before the championships after Canelo was thrown out.

Crawford’s victory is not as big as it seems

The way some fans speak believe it was a one-sided fight with Crawford who won 9-3 or 10-2. This indicates that they did not see the fight on Netflix because it was not the kind of struggle. Crawford’s offense was too inconsistent with the first eight rounds to give him credit because he won more than two of them.

Canelo constantly pushed the past through nine rounds, landed the harder shots and chased a reluctant and old Crawford around the ring. It was not a pound-by-pound #1-type exertion of Crawford. Indeed, I do not believe that it was even worthy of the #10 place.
