But once you start digging into the full data, the most interesting story isn’t the cheapest drivers on test. The real take is the difference between price and value.
of Takomo Fire D1 produced the strongest distance numbers among the three lowest-priced models. Finished roughly in the top third of the field all around 250 meters total distanceputting it closer to many premium drivers than its price would suggest.
What the cheapest drivers did well
The three lowest-priced drivers in the test all showed their strengths.
However, the tester’s data revealed a split pattern. For seven testers, Fire D1 finished within their top five drivers for distance, while for nine testers he finished in the bottom 10.
This kind of result suggests that the club fits some movement profiles extremely well, but struggles with others.
of MacGregor Tourney Max showed a different kind of value. While it finished lower in raw distance, it delivered strong forgiveness numbers relative to its price.
of Deputy VGD01 produced balanced performance in most categories. It didn’t dominate any one area, but it stayed competitive across the board. The lowest priced drivers in the test still proved capable of producing playable results.
But when the entire value segment is examined, the larger story becomes clearer.
How the value looked in this test
The three lowest-priced drivers on test weren’t the only clubs worth considering in the value category.
Several other models have recently moved closer to this level due to price changes. Drivers from Titleist GT lineupfor example, it now retails well below many mainstream versions from other brands.
This difference makes them important in a discussion of value even though they were not originally presented as budget drivers.
The inclusion of these clubs expands the value segment to 10 drivers in the data set, which reveals some clear patterns in the results.
Distance value
Several drivers in the value segment produced mileage numbers that rivaled many premium models.
Four clubs finished inside top 11 of the 42-driver field for total distance:
of Deputy VGD01+ produced the strongest top-level distance in the set of values. However, this distance came with a trade-off. The VGD01+ also produced some of the widest distribution models in the value segment.
of Title GT2 ENDED 11th overall when looking at total distance but, more importantly, it rarely gave poor results to testers. In tester-level data, it only landed in the bottom 10 three times out of 35 testersthe least poor finishes of these “value” drivers in the 2026 test.
The value of forgiveness
of Ben Hogan PTx LST AND PTx Max produced the tightest dispersion patterns among value drivers, finishing 9th and 11th overall in shot dispersion across the test.
These narrower patterns mean their shots stay closer together from swing to swing, which can help players keep more drives in play.
of PTx LST also posted the highest overall performance score among value drivers, reflecting strong stroke-earned scores even though his distance numbers were closer to the middle of the pack.

True delivery value
The 2026 Test Driver shows that “cheap” and “value” aren’t necessarily interchangeable.
Lower priced drivers can certainly work for the right golfer. But before assuming that cheaper the option is the best value, it is worth owning and comparing it with models that performed well on the test panel such as Title GT2 OR GT3.
