Mehidi Hasan Miraz replaced Najmul Hussain Shanto as captain

Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in the final ODI on November 11 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE. Before the match, Bangla Tigers suffered a major blow as their captain was injured.

Najmul Hossain Shanto picked up an injury while fielding in the second ODI which forced him off the field at one point. It was Mehidi Hasan Miraz who was seen captaining the field when he left the ground.

BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain said, “Due to a groin injury, Najmul is not playing the last match against Afghanistan,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead Bangladesh against Afghanistan, a role he will continue until Najmul Hossain Shanto fully recovers and returns to cricket.

Najmul Hossain Shanto ruled out for Test series against West Indies

After the final ODI against the Afghans, Bangladesh will travel to the West Indies for an all-format tour. The Tigers will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is on their tour of the West Indies later this month.

Meanwhile, Shanto has been ruled out of the Test series against West Indies on November 22 as he is expected to recover from his injury in just two weeks.

An official told Cricbuzz that the medical team will decide whether Najmul will go with the side to the West Indies or return home for further tests.

“He (Najmul) is unlikely to play in the opening Test against West Indies and now we have to see whether he needs to come back for rehabilitation or go with the team to West Indies. It will be decided by our medical team.” the official said.

AFG vs BAN ODI series is level 1-1

Afghanistan started the series with a 92-run win in Sharjah on November 6. They posted a total of 235 runs on the board thanks to brilliant knocks from Mohammad Nabi (84) and Hashemtullah Shahid (52).

Bangladesh got off to a decent start despite the early dismissal of Tanzid Hasan. Soumya Sarkar (33) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (47) scored good runs and Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed decently with 28 runs.

They were cruising towards the target before the horrendous blow happened and they suddenly went from 132/3 to 143/10 in no time.

Bangladesh bounced back and won the second ODI by 68 runs. First, Shanto’s 76 runs helped the Tigers score 252 runs, then the bowlers restricted Afghanistan to 184 runs to level the series.
