Question: Dear Chef, I continue to be way off the ball of fluffy lies. What is my problem? -Tyler F., Westhampton, NY
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Tyler! On fluffy lies, it’s very easy to slide the club too far down and miss the middle of the face. Try to move the ball slightly back in your position and focus on keeping it the arc of your swing shallow. This helps your clubface grip more of the ball, not just the grass below it.
Also, make sure not to open your face too much. This adds unnecessary loft and can make distance control more difficult.
One more thing: Trust your gut. Take a few test swings to understand how the club moves through the lie. This will help you adjust your configuration and swing for better and stronger contact.
