Sergio Mora says Terence Crawford should move to 160 and Erislandy Lara follows for his WBA middleweight title to become a world champion of six divisions. He believes that a victory for Crawford over Lara (31-3-3, 19 COs) would put him in the same class as Roberto Duran, Hank Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson.
Lara has not fought for a year since his ninth round victory over Danny Garcia on September 14, 2024. Lara is in addition 42 years old and will become 43 on April 11. Given his age, it would be difficult to attract fans to subscribe to Netflix in large numbers to view a collision between him and Crawford.
What would make a fight with Erislandy Lara even worse is if Crawford prefers to go on an extensive victory for a year or more, instead of coming back at the end of 2025. If Crawford waits until September 2026 before fighting again, Lara will be a year older and 43 will be. It will be a win for Crawford.
The pursuit of six sections
“Crawford can pick up a tire against Erislandy Lara to become a world champion of six divisions,” said Box’s analyst Sergio Mora Chris Mannix’s channel Who can fight Terence Crawford next. “Crawford, the $ 50 million he made, will never make it again.”
The financial problem
It would probably be a dramatic wage reduction that Bud would deal with if he were to fight next Lara, rather than a Rematch with Canelo or a risky fight against David Benavidez. The cut in payment can make Crawford hesitant to fight against Erislandy. It is mora who think it is a good idea, not Crawford.
“Terence Crawford would put the kind of knock on Erislandy Lara like one he would never forget. He is not the Erislandy Lara who fought against Canelo in 2014. I do not know who brings the cash for the fight,” Mannix said.
Lara’s declining form
Lara looked slow, stiff and old in his last battle against Danny Garcia in September 2024. He doesn’t look like the fighter he was when he lost to Canelo by a controversial 12-round decision on July 12, 2014.
Crawford does no favors by rejecting a fight against David Banavidez because he is perhaps the only option out there except a Canelo -Rematch where he can get a massive payday. Turki Alalahikh would not have mentioned Benavidez after the fight if he did not already consider himself the most marketable battle for Crawford.
