Here is a list of athletes supported by Great Britain Athletics in the hope of success at the upcoming Olympics.
UK Athletics has announced the selection of 38 athletes for the 2024-25 Olympic Futures Programme, a major initiative designed to support the rising stars of athletics.
The program, supported by Nike and run in partnership with home country athletics federations, enables athletes to develop the skills and abilities needed to succeed at senior international level.
It serves as a crucial stepping stone for young talent, helping them transition to British Athletics’ world-class program where they will benefit from National Lottery funding.
By being in the Future programme, British Athletics has discovered that the athlete has the potential to win medals at the Olympics in the coming years.
Among the athletes in the 2024-25 future program are several returning faces, including Charlie Carvel.
Carvel, who earned his first senior international cap at the 2024 European Championships, was originally selected for the Paris Olympics but had to withdraw due to injury.
Mia McIntosh, Nia Wedderburn-Goodison and Teddy Wilson, who all represented Great Britain at the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, also remained in the program.
The new squad of 13 athletes includes notable figures such as World Under-20 medalists Ed Baird, Charlotte Henrich and Jake O’Day-Jordan, as well as European Under-20 champion Innes FitzGerald.
The program has already helped launch the careers of athletes who have achieved great international success.
Among them are Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson, European bronze medalist and world indoor champion Molly Cooder, as well as Olympic relay medalists Charlie Dobson and Amber Anning.
Dan Wagner, head of UKA Performance Pathways, said: “It has been great to see the progress and development of current and former prospective athletes and their coaches over recent years and we look forward to following this year’s group.
“The Future Program focuses on engaging and understanding athletes and coaches and supporting their unique journeys at different stages of their development, whether that’s achieving a personal best, making their GB and NI junior debut or progressing through the senior ranks.
“While some have experienced the support of a world-class Olympic program, we understand that circumstances change and challenges occur. Obviously, the goal for these athletes is to progress to the top ranks. That’s why it’s fundamental for us to understand the makeup of each athlete.” and the plan so we can offer the appropriate support they need to achieve their goals.”
