When Bill Clinton was in the Oval Office, the Secret Service agents were sent San Francisco to prepare for his sneeze time in Olympic club.
They soon reported that everything was ready for the arrival of the beloved president for Golf. They would secure the building. There was only one problem, the agents noted. They could not find the course.
They were not the first to be confused.
Although known for golf, the Olympic club has always had a wider sports stretch. Its original focus, in fact, was not golf at all. It was a gym and general athletics. The club’s infrastructure reflects that fact.
Connect the “Olympic Club” to Google Maps today, and two addresses appear. One is for the Golf facilities, the famous USGA championship hosts, including the American amateur earlier this month. The other is for the club downtown, seven miles away. That club preaches golf. It opened in 1893 (the Olympic Club itself dates back further; it was founded in 1860 and is known as the oldest athletic club in the world). Its early members were boxers, rowers, swimmers and athletes on the ground. After a long time, basketball players became part of the mix. Regardless of the sport, the Athletes of the Olympic Club routinely were routinely ranked among the best. Many were (and some are still) current Olympics, enjoying world -class facilities to match their skills.
The original club in the city center did not last. It was destroyed by fires after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, but was rebuilt in 1912 in the same place after the road.
The reborn building was-and it is-a miracle, the accommodation of athletes in 19 sports and displaying such visible equipment as Natatorium, overloaded by two wonderful stained domes. Until 1960, the saline water was pumped into Natatorium through a seafood pipeline. The club has since been converted to chloride water in its poolplural, where the Olympian continues to tear their shocks today.

The golf was added to Rota in 1918, when the club won what was then known as Makeside Golf Club. The Golf club opened in 1925, and it is also surprising, a large building, with red spanish revival tiles, overlooking the championship lake course. While in the center of the club city, the story goes deep.
In a recent visit to San Francisco, Golf.com visited both clubs, which are the properties of sisters, but not identical twins. See the above or on youtube hereAnd you will never confuse both addresses again.
