Newcastle’s Joelinton has been widely praised after leading his side to a tenacious draw against the Premier League champions on Saturday afternoon.
Eddie Howe’s side showed why they are one of the most feared teams when they play at home in the Premier League against Manchester City this weekend with a hard-fought performance.
But it was the visitors who struck first when Josko Gvardiol cut inside with his weaker right foot before slotting the ball past Nick Pope in the Newcastle goal.
But the home side equalized from the start through Anthony Gordon after Ederson’s clumsy foul in the box just after the break.
Newcastle didn’t falter after returning to the competition, but clashed with Pep Guardiola’s side and could have stolen the three points late on.
But given the magnitude of the opposition Howe will be delighted with the point and will be delighted with the performances of his players especially Joelinton.
The Brazilian midfielder was everywhere on the pitch, acting as a ball destroyer and composed playmaker.
Speaking on talkSPORT during the contest, Stuart Pearce praised Joelinton’s performance throughout the 90 minutes.
“You’ve got to give him credit, you know. He’s fallen on his back at times, he’s led things, he’s a physical presence, he’s got personality, which I love.” Said as transcribed by Football TBR.
