Chelsea officially announced the 60 million pound signing of João Pedro de Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this week, committing the Brazilian to an eight -year contract.
As is now tradition, Chelsea flooded his social media channels with photos, videos and interviews with his last star. In a quick fire Q&A video, the 24 -year -old was asked a series of fast questions.
Pedro’s responses were largely predictable: Does your favorite Chelsea player of all time? Frank Lampard. Your football idol is growing? Neymar. The best player you ever played? Cristiano Ronaldo.
But when he was asked who played the best player he has ever played, Pedro’s response caught the fans completely off guard.
“James Milner,” he said.
Milner, who joined Brighton in 2023 at the age of 37, spent two seasons next to Pedro at the Amex stadium before the Brazilian change on the Stamford bridge.
While Milner, now 39 years old, is undoubtedly a legend of the Premier League, which has two league titles and a champions league trophy with Liverpool, few expected Pedro to name him above his companions or countrymen in Flashier. However, fans were intrigued by the honest, perhaps sincere answer.
A fan wrote on social media: “They asked João Pedro with whom he is the best player he has played, and only Milner said. I consider it.”
Milner, currently pursuing the Premier League record of all Gareth Barry’s time, needs only 16 more games to overcome it. After signing an extension with Brighton, it is likely that the record of next season is down.
And when Chelsea encounters Brighton again, Milner can become the best player Pedro has never played against – Not only on the side.
Better than Ronaldo? Maybe this is a section. But Pedro clearly values the veteran midfielder higher than expected.
