The Most Unique Hat in Golf?

Although rope hats are all the rage, Beaver Pelt Golf decided that wasn’t enough.

So they added a bottle opener to the bottom.

What?

Whether you’re opening a Mexican Coca-Cola or a Corona Extra with lime, the bottle opener is at your disposal.

I love the logo that pays homage to a nice “beaver” split from a fried wedge kick. I prefer the term Golf Rabble Pancake, but beaver jelly is a close second.

Is it functional?

I’m not sure if the idea was to be able to use the bottle opener with the hat on or not, but I wasn’t willing to test how close the Mexican coke was to my eye.

I was worried that I might (a) poke my eye out or (b) spill coke all over my face and into my eyes.

The best way to use the bottle opener is to remove the cap from the head, grasping the cap, opening the beverage of choice.

I worry that the brim will deteriorate over time, but the hat is not a bad novelty gift for a friend or family member.

The snapback design is awesome. There’s nothing better than a crisp new hat. Maybe it’s just me, but I get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I take a new picture for the first time.

The bad

I had some concerns while testing the Bottle Opener Rope Hat from Beaver Pelt Golf.

No. 1: The bottle opener will be in your peripheral vision at all the time. I found it distracting. While it wasn’t terrible during the round of golf I played with the hat on, it was a peripheral nightmare the rest of the time.

No. 2: The stitching on the edge directly on top of the bottle opener is weak. No, it’s an eyesore. I wish Beaver Pelt Golf had a little more attention to detail here.

(If I were designing this rope hat, I would have converted this eye of a circle into a magnetic holder for the ball marker.)

Innovation or contender?

The rope cap for the bottle opener fits into my novelty category.

The peripheral issues mixed with the poor stitching pattern on the brim prevent me from recommending the hat for everyday use. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: it’s an eyesore to have to see the bottle opener everywhere I look.

If you’re just looking to have fun with your friends and share a drink or two, your entire golf group should have a Beaver Pelt golf hat. It’s a conversation starter and can be extremely helpful … to the drinking crowd.
