The Mets reportedly expect Pete Alonso to sign with another team

The New York Mets continued their Cinderella postseason run to the National League Championship Series by signing the top free agent in this year’s class this offseason.

After acquiring Juan Soto from the New York Yankees, the Mets appear to have a solid offensive lineup heading into the 2025 season.

Along with Soto, the Mets signed several other notable free agents, including reliever Clay Holmes, starting pitcher Frankie Montas and outfielder Jose Siri.

Even though the Mets got the big free agent signing they were looking for, the longtime Mets shortstop looks like he might not be with the team in 2025.

According to Andy Martino of FOX Sports. Via MLB X, the Giants expect first baseman Pete Alonso to sign with another team in free agency this offseason.

Alonso has been one of the most closely watched free agent players of late, with many reports suggesting he will sign with the Mets in 2025.

The tides have turned with Martino’s report and it will be interesting to see what other teams pursue Alonso.

Alonso entered the league in 2019 and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the Mets.

In 2024, Alonso deteriorated a bit for his standards, but he still batted .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.

While Alonso’s numbers were down in 2024, he’s still a threat to home runs every time he steps to the plate, and many teams will likely be interested in the right-handed hitter.
