It has been a remarkable month in the Women’s Super League (WSL) with various management changes throughout the division.
Liverpool separated with Matt Beard, before Crystal Palace announced the departure of Laura Kaminski during the last international pause. Then, Manchester City made the shock decision to Sack Gareth Taylor A few days before the final of the Women’s League this weekend.
These ads arrived a few months after Arsenal And Aston Villa underwent his own management changes, bringing the total number to five for the whole season. Before the campaign began, there were a lot of disorders in the overflows with Emma Hayes among those who left their position, as well as the former head of Vila Carla Ward.
Rehanne Skinner is one of the most experienced WSL figures with his work in the League from 2020. However, he initially coached Tottenham, after taking the role in the middle of the 2019/20 season.
Towards the end of the 2022/23 season, Skinner was sacked by the London club after a race of nine straight losses. She was then named West Ham’s lead coach in July 2023, where she has been since.
Skinner is now in her second season with Hammers and are currently ninth at the table with 16 games played. They have won four, three have come in and they have lost nine of their games so far.
Following the departure of Skinner in March 2023, Robert Vilahamn was appointed Spurs chief in early July this year. The Swedish had previously trained BK Hacken on his hometown and so far enjoyed a successful spell in northern London.
In its first season, Vilahamn guided Spurs at their first FA Cup final, which they later lost to Manchester United. They also finished sixth in the WSL, ten points of the first four places.
This term, the Spurs are the seventh place in the standings after 15 games, but the gap between the tenth and the fifth is only seven. Vilahamn signed a new contract with Spurs last summer, which will keep it in the club until 2027.
The second manager who serves the WSL most is Everton’s head, Brian Sorensen. The DANE was announced as Toffees’ main coach in April 2022 and was formally taken over before the 2022/23 season.
Last April, Sorensen signed a new two-year agreement with Everton, keeping it at the Merseyside Club until the end of the 2025/26 season. In their first season, he guided them to first and the last term ended eighth.
Everton is similarly located this season despite various injuries. The threat of relegation was great in the first months of the current campaign, so Sorensen was supported in the January transfer window with some promising permanent and loans, including Emma Watson, Hayley Ladd, Kelly Gago and Maren Mjelde.
Following Taylor’s departure this week, Marc Skinner of Manchester United is now the WSL’s longest manager. Before joining United, the 41-year-old trained Birmingham City and then the NWSL Orlando’s pride, before returning to England in the summer of 2021.
His term has certainly divided the opinion between a Fanbase United vowel, although he guided the club into his first piece of silver last season. Despite ending out of the first four places of the WSL, United beat Tottenham in the Cup final FA to rewrite history books.
Was rewarded with an extension of one year contract, which can be extended to 2026. Reports indicate that United has until the end of March to trigger the clause, but a new agreement can also be negotiated at any time.
