The Journey to Compete, Episode 4 featuring Carissa Schweitzer, two-time Olympian, NIKE Elite Athlete

RunBlogRun and NIKE present:

A journey to compete

Episode 4:

Carissa Schweitzer,

Double Olympian (Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024),

NIKE Elite Athlete, Bowerman Track Club

This was an interview I wanted to do for a few years. Carissa Schweitzer is a fierce competitor who has seen the highs and lows of being an elite athlete.

Carissa Schweitzer set an AR for the indoor 3000m (8:25.70) at the Last Chance Invitational on February 28, 2020, which was faster than Marie Slaney’s iconic 3000m outdoor AR. Carissa’s AR has since been hacked.

Carissa is a six-time NCAA champion while at the University of Missouri from 2014-2018. Carissa was a union member Bowerman Track Club, trained Jerry Schumacher.

Carissa Schweitzer has a 5000m PB of 14:26.24 and her 10,000m PB is 30:18.22. At 1,500 meters Carissa came in at 4:00.02 on the flat. Carissa told RBR that she still wants to break 4 minutes for 1,500 meters and 30 minutes for 10,000 meters.

time USA Cross Country ChampionshipsKarissa made the World Cross country team with a 4th place finish at Glendover Golf Course in 34:18.2. time World Cross Country Champions, Carissa was the 4th US woman to finish 17th in 33:58 on the challenging course in Tallahassee on January 11, 2026.

In this interview, we talked about Carissa’s high school experiences, the challenges of transitioning from high school to college as an elite athlete. It is an interesting interview.

Thank you Carissa for your time. Thank you, Paul Moser, NIKE Sports Marketing Manager, for bringing us together.
