Former Indian National Cricket Team Head Coach Ravi Shastri has made a big comment about legendary batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on their return to international cricket.
Ravi Shastri said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did not want to retire from Test cricket and they came out on their own terms and one can expect something similar in Odi Cricket.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set for international comeback
It has been a long time since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli donned the blue jersey and played international cricket for the Indian National Cricket team.
A daily dose of cricket!
Across the UAE and Pakistan, they last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 between the UAE and Pakistan in February and March. Kohli while Rohit Sharma played a match-winning knock in the final to help India lift yet another ICC trophy.
After that, Roit Sharma and Virat Kohli featured for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Paintings Bengaluru (RCB) in 2025 (IPL) 2025 and announced their retirement from test cricket in the middle of the league.
Their retirements ruled them out of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy from 2025 and they did not feature in the Asia Cup 2025 as they played in the T20I format they had opted out of last year.
Meanwhile, Kohli and Rohit will make their ODI comeback in the upcoming three-match series against Australia. The modern day batting greats have played for and against Australia and have hit a plethora over the years.
Rohit Sharma scored 1,328 runs at an average of 53.12 in 30 innings and a total of 53.12 in Australia and conceded 2,407 runs at an average of 57.30 in 46 ODIs against them. Talking about Kohli, he has scored 1327 runs in 29 matches in ODIS at an average of 51.03 in ODIS and Australia and has hit a total of 2451 ODIs in 50 games at an average of 54.46 against them.
It depends on how hungry you are – Ravi Shasti
Speculations are rife about the potential involvement of Rohit and Kohli in the ICC World Cup 2027 and now Ravi Shastri has shared his thoughts on the matter. The former India coach said the batsmen have a lot of experience in their bags and their hunger along with fitness will decide their world cup fate.
“(Virat Kohli is) a master chaser and Rohit is a blast at the top. They feel they have got enough cricket in them,” Shastri said on FOX sports.
“It depends on how hungry they are, whether they still have the passion for the game, how fit they are. We will be very handy with their experience,” he said.

They were asked to retire – Ravi Shasti
Ravi Shastri said that the 2027 World Cup is still a long way off and what he is taking Series by Series is an ideal path for Rohit and Virat Kohli. He also revealed that the duo was not asked to retire from Test cricket and the same would happen in ODI Cricket.
“Take it one series at a time. Virat retired from Test cricket. They didn’t want him to test either.
“If they’re not enjoying it, if the form isn’t good, they can pull the plug themselves,” Shastri said.
