Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future at Crystal Palace is reportedly in doubt amid a row with manager Oliver Glasner.
Mateta was the catalyst for Palace’s incredible upturn in form following Glasner’s arrival at the end of last season, scoring 13 goals in his final 13 appearances of the season; as many as he got in his first 93 outings for the club.
The 27-year-old scored five goals in six games to help France to a silver medal at the Olympics over the summer and, while not as prolific, has started well this season with four goals in eight games in all competitions.
It’s no surprise that Mateta was heavily linked with a move away from Selhurst Park in the summer, with the player even claiming that Palace blocked the possibility of an exit during the transfer period.
Aston Villa was the Premier League club most prominently credited with an interest.
The future of Jean-Philippe Mateta’s palace in doubt
The book still doesn’t seem to be closed on Mateta’s future at Palace.
According to a report from the Daily Mailthe striker was angry with Glasner for sending him off at half-time in the recent 0-0 draw at home to Manchester United.
Mateta was replaced by Ismaila Sarr at half-time after a lackluster first half and although the Eagles improved in the second 45, they were yet to find the breakthrough.
Glasner gave Mateta the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat at Everton, with the Frenchman attempting just one shot, extending his current drought to three games in all competitions.
The Daily Mail have also reported that Mateta wants his £50,000-a-week wages doubled before committing his future to Crystal Palace, with his current contract at the club only running until the end of next season.
