The fights we WANT to see: why tank vs. Roach is not enough

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ latest choice of opponent for his March 1st fight, Lamont Roach Jr., is another disappointing choice in a long line of lackluster fighters for the Baltimore native. The fight will be shown on PBC Prime Video PPV at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Not this guy again

Fans were hoping for a miracle, with Tank surprising them with a holiday announcement that he was picking Edwin De Los Santos, Raymond Muratalla or Shakur Stevenson. It would have gone against the grain of the cherry-picking that Tank Davis has done throughout his career.

Tank would have made fans a real solid player if he had canceled the Roach fight and replaced Shakur in his place because that match would have been pure fire.

These are just a few of the many preferred fighters that fans want to see Gervonta fight rather than the 29-year-old Roach, who will move up in weight to 130 to challenge for the WBA lightweight title.

Super featherweight Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs) is NOT the type of opponent fans want to see Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) fight. It was more of the same safe picks people have seen from the 30-year-old Davis during his 11-year professional career.

Although the Davis-Roach fight was postponed from the original December 14th date, fans were hoping that Tank would cancel it due to the negative criticism he received. That’s why today’s announcement that the fight will be rescheduled for March 1 has angered many fans who don’t want to see it.

The fights we crave

  1. Shakur Stevenson
  2. Edwin Delos Santos
  3. Abdullah Mason
  4. Raymond Muratalla
  5. William Zepeda
  6. Andy Cruz
  7. Keyshawn Davis
  8. Denys Berinchyk
  9. Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela
  10. Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez
  11. Subriel Mathias
  12. Devin Haney
  13. Teofimo Lopez
  14. Liam Paro
  15. Arnold Barboza Jr.
  16. Emanuel Navarrete
  17. Floyd Schofield Jr

WBC lightweight champion Shakur has been calling out Tank Davis for a fight since moving up to 135 lb last year, and he’s gotten nowhere. Davis is not interested. Fans could accept that if Tank were to fight the likes of De Los Santos, Mason, Muratalla or Zepeda.
