Former 140 pounds, Josh Taylor, announced his retirement and ended his 10 -year career for medical reasons.
Taylor, 34, lost his last three fights, with the most unfriendly cut of all with a defeat against Ekow Essuman, a 36-year-old welterweight that is more than one of the best guys. The loss, in addition to Josh’s two previous against Jack Catterall and Theofimo Lopez, was a clear sign that he should have hung his gloves.
Josh Taylor’s eye injury ends the boxing career
On social media, Taylor said she decided to stop the sport, due to an eye injury. He did not reveal how long he had the problem. His career began to suffer until February 26, 2022, when he won a controversial 12-round decision against Catterall in Glasgow, Scotland. Many boxing fans consider it a robbery.
The Olympic Taylor in 2012 (19-3, 13 COs) achieved greatly in a short five-year period between 2017 and 2022. At that time he defeated Regis Prograis, Miguel Vazquez, Jose Ramirez, Viktor Postol and Ivan Baranchyk.
The analysis of Josh Taylor’s career drops
The Prograis and Ramirez fights were both wars, with Taylor taking a lot of punishment to win 12-round decisions. Josh briefly held the undisputed light welterweight title with his victory over Ramirez.
After the victory over Ramirez in 2021, Taylor lost the momentum he had. He was involved in the controversial victory over Catterall, who infected his career, and then began to vacate his titles. In 2022, Taylor vacated his IBF, WBA and WBC titles of 140 pounds when he was ordered to oppose Alberto Puello and Jose Zepeda.
If Taylow had defended against Puello, he would probably have lost, and his career would have unraveled with the defeat immediately. Even at best, Taylor would have had major problems against Puello. Avoiding the fight was a smart step for him.
End of an era. I have lived my dream for the past ten years and conquered Mount Everest.
Thank you to each of you for the support of what this Mad Rollercoaster was of a journey.
