When did you last replace your gloves?
not purely those. Replace those.
If you have to think about it, they probably have to. Pride of Golf AND SuperStrokethe two brands you’ll find in more clubs than anyone else recommend reholstering them at least once a year or every 40 to 60 rounds. This number is based on how the rubber actually degrades when exposed to heat, sweat, UV light, and oils from your hands.
What Worn Out Gloves Do to Your Swing
I’ve taught many golfers over the years, and grip-related swing problems are some of the most frustrating to diagnose because they masquerade as technical issues. Here’s what’s really going on.
Clamping pressure creep
When a handle becomes smooth, you squeeze tighter without realizing it. That tension runs through your wrists and forearms and stiffens the entire swing. You are fighting your hands before the club reaches the top.
The club moves to the top
A worn grip cannot hold the club square during the transition. Even a little rotation in the hands, going from backswing to backswing, changes where the face is headed when it comes back to the ball. You can take a hard swing and miss badly and you’ll blame your swing on something your equipment caused.
The club moves with influence
This is not talked about enough. If there is no traction left in the grip, the club can roll in your hands through the impact zone. The face that was square half a second ago is not square when it counts. You lose control just when you need it most.

Signs That It’s Time To Get Your Golf Clubs Back
Here are some of the most popular signs that it’s time new controls in your clubs.
| sign up | What does it mean |
|---|---|
| Glossy or smooth surface | The tire compound is broken |
| Grips feel firm or tight | The softness and stickiness are gone |
| Cracked or chipped tire | The past! Replace immediately |
| Stronger squeeze than usual | Compensation for lost traction |
| The club is moving to the top | The face angle is no longer reliable |
| The club spins through impact | There is no grip stability where it matters most |
| I don’t remember the last retake | Almost certainly late |
A good reason to act before the start of the season
If you’ve told yourself you’ll make it, this is your window.
Pride of Golf is running a promotion on PGA TOUR Superstore through March 28: buy eight or more Golf Pride gloves (any combination of swing gloves and hitting gloves) and refills are free. This is the bulk of your bag tackled right at the start of the season, when fresh gloves make the biggest difference.
Outside of that promotion, regripping is only $0.99 per club at PGA TOUR Superstore.
While you’re there, let them check everything else
One thing I always do when I come back is take a good look at the rest of the club and make sure there are no adjustments that need to be made. If you know your putter is too long or the shaft on your hybrid is no longer suitable for your game, revival time is the perfect time to fix the problem.
PGA TOUR Superstore handles most common club repair jobs in-store, usually within 48 hours—and refills are often returned faster than that. Here’s what the repair menu looks like.
| Service | PRICE |
|---|---|
| regrip (work) | $0.99/club |
| Shortening of the club | $4.99/club |
| Club extension | $7.99/club |
| Loft/false arrangement | $4.99/club |
| Standard re-axle | $19.99/club |

Another option to consider
If you play regularly, Membership in the Players Club Plus ($299.99/year) covers 30 free grip installations each year, one free fitting ($99 value), one free lesson ($79 value), 50 percent off club repair services and unlimited access to the daily practice bay.
For a golfer who plays more than a handful of rounds a year and properly maintains his equipment, it pays off quickly.
Final thoughts
Fresh grips allow you to hold the club with proper pressure, keep the face square through the swing and control the club at impact. Worn grips make you compensate for all three, and sometimes you do it without even realizing it.
Once a year is the basis. If you’re playing more than 40 rounds, exercising frequently, or dealing with heat and humidity, go faster.
