Two years ago, on May 20, 2023, Devin Haney won a disputed unanimous 12 -round decision over Vasily Lomachenko. The victory for the much bigger Haney has angry many fans, who have seen it overwhelmingly in favor of Lomachenko. Few fans respected this result.
The judges achieved it 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113. Many people felt Haney didn’t deserve the victory, but he got it because of his youth and long career before him. I watched the fight and had it 9-3 for Lomachenko. The judges seem to be more impressed by Haney’s Jabs and ignore the combination Loma did throughout the competition.
Dispute Haney Victory
- Great Benefit: Devin looked massive compared to Lomachenko during the fight, and two divisions appeared larger. This is not surprising, because Haney looked at the weigh -in and hungry in appearance. Fans considered him a weight bully. He reportedly rehydrated to 160 pounds and looked like a middleweight in the ring. His decision to campaign on 135 instead of at Welterweight, where he probably had to fight, was widely criticized. Lomachenko must have stayed at 126, where he was at his best. Haney had to be able to dominate with his unfair size advantage, but he counteracted the better technically gifted Lomachenko all night. It is interesting that Haney waited until 2025 to eventually move to Welterweight, where he had to fight for years.
- Robbery outcome: Fans do not agree with the results of the struggle and feel that the judges of Las Vegas have given a decision resident of Nevada, Devin. Judge Dave Moretti’s score of 8-4 in favor of Haney made many people angry.
- Lomachenko’s work ignored: The three judges ignored the effective punch that Lomachenko did in battle, which looked like he was postponing what he did. Loma ended Haney in every round, but officials did not recognize his work.
Despite the win, Haney did not receive any credit from fans or the media due to the controversy. His victory was infected, and he came out of the fight as someone who was considered preferred treatment. Some fans believe that boxing was looking for a replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr., so Devin would be protected to create a fake star.
