It is with great sadness that the Shore Athletic Club of New Jersey announces the passing of Dave Romanski, its distinguished teammate and
US Olympian, National Champion, US International and Hall of Famer.
Romansky, who was born on April 8, 1938, died in October
31, 2024, at the age of 86.
“Dave was certainly one of the greatest racers in America
history; he was a tough competitor who you know will fight you every step of the way, every step of every race,” Ron said.

Romansky was well-remembered, severely ill with the flu in “Montezuma’s Revenge,” which finished 26th in the 1968 playoffs. in the Olympic 50K.
Born in Penn’s Grove, New Jersey (also home to 1960 Olympic pole vault champion Don Bragg), Romanski and his family lived a large life in nearby Pennsville.
The 1970 season was one of Romanski’s best.
He won National AAU titles in the 10K, 15K, 20K, 25K, 45K and 40K and finished eighth at the IAAF Racewalk Cup 20K in Eschborn, Germany.
He originally represented the Delaware Track Club and the Penn Athletic Club before going on to other notable successes with the Shore Athletic Club.
As a competitor in the Masters division (40 and over), he has set records in the 5K, 10K, 20K, 25K and 30K.
For all this and more, he was inducted into the National Masters Hall of Fame.
He was a member of Shore Athletic Club, Penns Grove High School, Delaware Track and Field Coaches and Salem County Hall of Fame.
