If you play for money with your friendsmaybe you sweated over a putt worth $20, $50 or even $100 or more. When dollars are on the line, the intensity increases exponentially.
So imagine what it must be like for PGA Tour players, when a putt can count hundreds of thousands dollars – as well as precious FedEx Cup and world ranking points, too.
Which players ended up leaving some serious dough on the table when their flat clubs failed at the worst possible time in 2025? The PGA Tour, in association with Golfbet, released some staggering numbers on social media. See details below.
Shane Lowry
A missed second solo shot on the final hole at the Truist Championship cost Lowry $400,000.
Akshay Bhatia
Bhatia’s missed shot for third in the Players Championship alone cost him $400,000.
Ben Griffin
Griffin won three times in 2025, but was very close to potential four titles. With a short shot remaining to force a playoff in the Procore Championship, Griffin lost and lost $426,000 in the process.
Russell Henley
In the tournament championship, Henley hit a mid-range putt that, had it been made, would have made him second alone. Instead, the miss cost him $647,000.
Patrick Cantlay
Also in the tournament championship: Patrick Cantlay lost $647,500 when he missed a solo 10-footer.
Andrew Novak
This stings. Andrew Novak memorably earned his first PGA Tour victory at the Zurich Classic alongside Ben Griffin, but a week before that victory, Novak had a chance to earn a one-off win at the RBC Heritage. Unfortunately, his winning shot missed the hole and he lost the subsequent playoff to Justin Thomas. The financial size of that missed shot? 1.44 million dollars.
Tommy Fleetwood
Fleetwood won his first PGA Tour event at the Tour Championship, but he came close to victory several times at the top of that tour, including a painful narrow loss at the Travelers Championship, where he faced a short shot to enter a playoff – and lost. The consequence? $1.84 million lost. But with a total of $18,496,238 in earnings in 2025, we’re guessing Tommy isn’t losing any sleep.
