Was a Last, Wild Last Walnut of 2025 US OPEN THEir Oakmont. While Jj Spaun was able to fight through the rain To win his first majorMost other contenders lost the battle with the difficult conditions. No one more than 54-voltage leader Sam Burns, who lost his supremacy for good After a controversial decision, he denied him a free fall at a significant moment late on Sunday, leading to a double noise.
The main culprit for Burns’s dilemma was a golf course flooded by the rape that suspended the game halfway in the last round.
And Burns was not just in his dissatisfaction. A prominent TV analyst and one of Burns’s Anoi competitors with pro jilted.
Here’s what you need to know.
Late Sunday storms make us open open conditions ‘intangible border line’
Late Sunday afternoon in Oakmont, the storms that had threatened the game all day began to overthrow the rainy course. Water accumulated in greens, and that, along with some lightning in the area, forced a game suspension at 4:01 Afternoon et.
The open fall of Sam Burns’ US ended with fiery eyes but also self -esteem
At the time of suspension, Burns held a lead with a stroke Adam Scott Through seven holes, the same size with which he started the day, despite the early two deafs that had fallen its result in two below.
The eventual Spaun champion was four back.
The Oakmont maintenance crew was able to squeeze the greens enough to resume the game at 5:37 afternoon. But as the players headed back to their balls after the long delay, the rain was still falling, and the course was still soaked, with water just below the surface of the fair.
These conditions led to a lead of fat shooting and crooked results. Burns was one of the main victims.
After alternating Bogey and Birdie at 9 and 10 after the resumption, Burns made a double devastating noise in par-4 11, in part as a result of a wet extension to his approach. Another Bogey followed at 12.
By the time he reached Par-4 15, Burns had fallen behind the spaun, but there was a lot of golf to play, and Bogeys falling everywhere. Playing in the group ahead, Spaun made Bogey in 15 years old. This shifted the burns to a four -way tie for the superiority with the spaun, Tyrrell Hatton and Robert Macintre in one over.
But as soon as the 15 ends, Burns’s hopes to capture his first big title would be broken.
Burns denied the free fall, loses our open bullet
At the age of 15, Burns struck a tight 297-Oborre kick that just found the right end of the road. Usually, this is the key to playing well in an Opent Open. But the place where Burns’s ball rested was a low point in the hole, and when he reached it, he found a wet stretch with water just below the grass surface.
When he turned to his ball, he felt that water accumulated on his feet. As he tried to get practical oscillations, the water spread in the air in the influence. At this point, Burns decided to try to get free relief due to foot water.
Delay, rulings, ‘bad luck’, heart attack: 20 ways this open crazy open
Rule 16.1 of golf rules allows players to get a free decline if they encounter “abnormal course conditions”, which they define as “animal holes, land under repairs, immovable obstacles or temporary water.“
Facilitation is allowed if the ball or attitude of a player is affected by those conditions.
An official of the rules reached and argued the script with Burns. But after the discussion, the rules officer denied burning free relief. Burns demanded that another rules official be called for a second opinion.
Burns hosted the second official and continued to prove his watery and lie. After the official arrived, he and Burns discussed the lie.
But Burns was denied a free fall for the second time.
Clearly frustrated, he played away, grabbed his fat and looked in disgust while his ball found stupid and left -handed from green.
TV microphones captured the irritated pro -intention reaction.
“That’s funny,” Burns said.

A double noise followed, moving the burns on three above and abandoning it from quarrels for good.
After the round, Burns was diplomatic when asked about the incident by reporters.
“This is the type of the lower part of the road there,” he said. “When I got into it, you can clearly see water to come. It took practical shakes and it’s just splashing water every time. Call a rules official, they didn’t agree. I looked at it again. I thought I should probably get a second opinion. This rules didn’t agree.
He went on: “From that point, (Caddy travis perkins) and I said,” Look let’s focus on stroke, try to execute. “I did the best I could.
Burns also demonstrated a strong perspective for his week, despite suffering some bad holidays on Sunday, including the divotion in 11 and 14.
“I went out there and gave the best I had. Golf is a difficult game, especially in this golf course,” Burns said. “At the end of the day, I can keep my head up.”

Adam Scott calls us open conditions ‘intangible border line’
Burns’s Game Partner on Sunday was Scott, the 2013 Masters Champion, who started the first day after the leader.
Like Burns, Scott was already two in his round when the game was suspended Sunday, but one shot by the superiority. Also like burns, Scott fought much more after resumption, making five bogeys and a double slap Shoot a 79 and fall on T12.
After his round, Scott spoke about the unfaithful conditions that everyone faced after the storms rolled through the property.
“Once the roads were soaked, it was very difficult to control the golf ball,” Scott said. “I think the course just couldn’t get much more water really.”
He also complained of “clumsy” conditions after resumption.

“It was just as clumsy, the rest of the road. Sam (Burns), we must have looked terrible, both playing so. But this is what can happen in these things. If you go out a little, just be severely punished,” Scott said.
When asked about Burns’s controversial decision, Scott said he had also thought to seek temporary water relief, and he called the conditions “unbearable border”.
“I was thinking of asking too; it was the unbearable limit,” Scott said. “The water was like as close to the surface. Like the hit I hit at 11, it’s weird. I just don’t know. It was like an aquaplane on the ground.
When Burns had set up to 18 for a last round 78 left T7, NBC analyst Brad fax expressed his strong dispute with the decision of officials’ rules to deny the burning of a decline.
Faxon said Burns “took probably one of the worst holidays by not being able to move that ball to 15. He should have been able to get relief from there. This is a bad call.”
After all, both Burns and Scott admitted that every competitor had to deal with the same poor conditions that came out of the extension. Spa was Of course I’m not immune to bad holidays on SundayAlthough most of it came earlier in the round.
But after resumption, it was the one who did the best in the worst conditions, and thus won the trophy and Mass winner check.
