The St. Louis Cardinals missed the postseason for the second straight season in 2024, finishing with an 83-79 record.
Since winning the World Series in 2011, the Cardinals have made the playoffs in eight of 13 seasons.
In an organization with 11 world titles and accustomed to a winning culture, missing the postseason might seem like a disaster.
The Cardinals will reportedly take a step back next season and focus more on developing their players to rebuild their organization.
Cardinals president John Mozeliak revealed his thoughts on the team’s direction.
“The reality is we have to change the direction of what we’re doing,” Mozeliak said via MLB Network’s “X.”

Mozeliak talks about how the team is headed in the wrong direction and how the decision to part ways with key components of their roster may not be their best option.
There has been talk of trading one of their star players, Nolan Arenado, and spending the next few seasons focusing on building and developing their young talent.
Cardinals fans likely aren’t thrilled with the idea of retooling the roster over the next few years, but Mozeliak believes it might be the best move in the long run.
It will be interesting to see what the team decides to do this offseason and to see what their roster looks like come the start of the 2025 season.
The Cardinals haven’t made the playoffs since 2019, and they could struggle to just make the postseason in the coming seasons.
