This is Stuart Weir’s third work on Silesia DL, which took place on August 25, 2024.
The British in Silesia
The outstanding GB performances in Silesia were at medium distance. Georgia Bell was third in the 1,500 in 3:58.11 and Melissa Courtney-Bryant was fourth in 3:59.55. With Diribe Velteji winning. Olympic medalist Bell said afterwards. “It was a good race. I expected it to be a close fight with some women looking to make a point after the Olympics. I ran another sub4 so I should be pleased. I’ve never done it before this season but I’ve done it 4 times now and it would be a disappointment not to do it today. This was my 18th 1500m of the year, which is a lot, but now I’m planning on doing around 800s before the season is over. The conditions were perfect today. It was hot but there was shade on the track and a bit of wind so it wasn’t a problem.” Reeve Walcott-Nolan ran 4:00.41 for 10thth place how have the middle distance times gotten faster lately?
Gemma Rickey was second in a rare 1000m in 2:32.56. He commented: “It was a little slower than I expected, but overall it went pretty well. Of course, everyone is tired after the Olympics and I had to quickly get my head back into training and aiming for the end of the season and the Diamond League Finals. I was unhappy with my performance at the Olympics, but I have to move on and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Max Burgin ran 1:43.73 for seventh in fast 800. Jeremiah Azu ran 10.05 5:00th 100 m. Darryl Neita was fourth in the 100m in 11.01 and Lavaya Nielsen clocked a 51.02 in the 400. Both will disappoint, but since both have had stellar years, I’ll take the latter.
Cindy Sember ran 12.67 in 100 hours, but did not make it to the finals.
Next up on the diamond is Friday’s Golden Gala in Rome, where Daryl Neita, Charles Dobson, Amy Pratt, Amy Hunt, Lina Nielsen and Reeve Walcott-Nolan will be nominated.
