The Blue Jays are showing a lot of interest in Pete Alonso

The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in three years, finishing 74-88 and in last place in the American League East.

After a disappointing 2024 season, most people expected the Blue Jays to be aggressive this offseason.

Although the Blue Jays had top free agent Juan Soto, they were unable to sign him and have only made a few signings so far.

While the Blue Jays may be focusing on extending their star shortstop Vladimir Guerrero Jr., MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal revealed that they are showing interest in free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.

“The Blue Jays are stacked for Alonso,” Rosenthal said via Foul Territory at the X.

Many MLB fans and MLB analysts believed Alonso would eventually sign with the Mets and stay with the team through 2025.

Rosenthal’s report suggests the Blue Jays, Mets and one other unnamed team are in the running for Alonso.

Another point Rosenthal makes is that the Giants are in talks with other players as well, and if they sign one of them before Alonso, they’ll forget about trying to bring Alonso back.

Alonso’s 2,024 numbers include playing in all 162 games with a .240 batting average, 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.

It was Alonso’s lowest home run total since the strike-shortened 2020 season, but he’s still a home run threat.

If the Blue Jays want to contend for the AL East title, bringing in Alonso could greatly benefit their chances.
