The Blue Jays are reportedly in talks with the key player about a contract extension

The Toronto Blue Jays are in one of Major League Baseball’s top divisions, the American League East.

After making the postseason the past two years, the Blue Jays missed the playoffs in 2024 as they finished with a 74-88 record and finished in last place in the AL East.

In a division that includes the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, the Blue Jays will need to stay aggressive in the offseason if they want to stay competitive.

While the Blue Jays haven’t made many notable offseason moves so far, they are reportedly in talks with the key player to extend his contract.

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of B/R Walk-Off via X , the Blue Jays are actively negotiating a contract extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero Jr. entered the league in 2019 with the Blue Jays and has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the team.

Although Guerrero Jr. is set to become a free agent after this upcoming season, the Blue Jays are taking steps now to try to ensure he stays with the team for the future.

In 2024, Guerrero Jr. played in 159 games where he batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBI and a .940 OPS.

The four-time All-Star has been a staple for the Blue Jays for several years, and signing him to an extension would be a huge win for the organization.

While the Blue Jays haven’t won the AL East title since 2015, having Guerrero Jr. in the lineup gives them a better chance of achieving that goal in 2025.
