The Barstool Sports host weighs in on the villain of the tournament

The most talked about tour in golf right now has nothing to do with the PGA Tour or LIV. Instead, it’s an online spectacle featuring dozens of the game’s biggest influencers. The tour was filmed months ago and an episode is currently being released on YouTube.

“Golf is this incredible vehicle for entertainment,” said Barstool Sports “Fore Play” podcast host Sam “Riggs” Bozoian on this week’s episode of Subpar. “That’s why golf on YouTube exists. It’s not just for watching good golf shots.”

Case in point: The aforementioned Internet Invitational, a made-for-You-Tube tournament hosted by Barstool Sports and Bob Does Sports that features 48 personalities competing for a $1 million grand prize. The tour has been an instant hit, racking up millions of views online as soon as each episode is posted – despite the fact that the episodes are long, with Episode 1 clocking in at nearly four hours.

Part of the allure of the tour? The surprise appearance of a villain in Episode 1. (GOLF’s Dylan Dether provided excellent overview of the situation herebut in short: competitor Luke Kwon missed his tee time, much to the chagrin of his teammates, and Kwon showed zero remorse. Shocking!)

The ‘Internet Invitational’ produces a stunning villain – and millions of views

What does Bozoian, who captained one of the Internet Invitational teams, say about the reaction to Kwon? He shared his opinion with Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz in the studio.

“It’s funny because when we were looking back, after we finished, we’re all happy. We all thought it went well,” Bozoian said. “We all thought the drama was crazy. And looking back, I didn’t even think about the Luke Kwon situation. That’s how many other things happened and how, how well it’s done. It didn’t even occur to me.

“I was the captain of the opposing team, so I was already happy that he slept and I already said thank you, but I would go back to him and be like the best thing that happened was that you slept,” he continued. “He took the internet by storm. It’s disgusting of him. And, like, an insane amount of build-up for someone who just slept. So I honestly feel bad for Luke Kwon to a degree, and he could have handled it better afterwards.

“We could all treat sh- better in our whole lives, so whatever. But for him to then like, this super villain because he just slept and then didn’t apologize much, it’s probably not worth the sh- he got.”

Bozoian said the criticism Kwon received often comes with the territory when Barstool is involved.

“We’ll call you out on your fuss—,” he said. “We’re going to hold everyone accountable, and people are going to like, gravitate toward conflict. It’s kind of how Barstool works.”
