Vitor Roque has admitted that therapy was needed to “overcome several obstacles” during the first months of his Barcelona career.
The 19-year-old agreed to join Barcelona from Athletic Paranaense in 2024 ahead of the 2023/24 season, before the club decided to sign him during the January transfer window.
However, Roque found opportunities hard to come by in Catalonia and failed to make a significant impact before being linked with a summer move away. He finally joined Real Betis on loan for a season, with the option to extend for another 12 months.
In an interview with ASBrazilian international Roque opened a “difficult” period in Barcelona.
“It was a bit difficult for me. I had some chances, but not the way I thought,” he said.
“I have a clear head. Now I am focused on Betis and thanking God for the opportunity to wear the national team shirt again.
“I thought it would be different, both in the treatment and the way I play, and the way I was told about the board. But it’s over now.
“I have always been in therapy, with a mental coach. He has always helped me, since I was 16, when I also went through some obstacles. Today I am also trying, he has helped me a lot to overcome several obstacles. .
“When I left I did speak. One of the first times… I tried to understand why many things were happening, which I won’t tell you here. At Betis they received me very well, I’m very happy to be there and get a chance to play it.”
