“That’s for you, Hong Kong”

Miami Open’s drawing seemed to be opening nicely for Ben Shelton. Then a 20-year-old with the name Coleman wong happened.

Location No.182 of the Rangut in Hong Kong captivated the 13th Seeds of the 13th Seed, turning his third point of match into placing Tiebreak to make the lowest rank player to reach the 32nd round in Miami in ten years.

“I always trust myself to play in these big stages … I have had a difficult time (during) Covid’s times,” Wong said in court after his emotional celebration. “I didn’t play for a year and a half and I’m really lucky that my team continues to support me. I’m really happy. That’s for you Hong Kong.”

Beating Daniel Altmaier in the first round, Wong became the first Hong Kong player to ever record a master’s 1000 win. He will face the lucky Loser Adam Walton.

Wong played aggressively and affirmative throughout the match, and built a 5-2 lead in the third set, but Shelton re-tied it with a break and eventually flattened.

Wong had two points of match with Shelton serving at 5-6, but the American gave bold winners in both.
