Terence Crawford posted a message on social media to inactive former UFC champion Conor McGregor that he was “getting back on the mat.”

Crawford, 37, and McGregor reportedly recently discussed a two-fight deal, with one fight in the boxing ring and the other in an MMA bout. However, Crawford rejected the deal and chose not to pursue it despite the big money the two fights would bring.
Now Crawford may have changed his mind after thinking about it. In his social media post, he let the wealthy 36-year-old McGregor know that he is back on the (wrestling) mat, training.
It could be that Crawford realizes how much dough he can make against McGregor and likes that idea more than risking his neck to fight the young 154-pounder for less money in boxing. McGregor has not finished MMA since 2021 and has lost his last two bouts.
He hasn’t won a fight in that sport since 2020, and some believe McGregor has lost his hunger due to the mega wealth he made from his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. accumulated in 2017.
Crawford would make less money fighting McGregor than Mayweather banked. He reportedly made $280 million, but that was when McGregor was at the height of his fame. McGregor is now considered an entrepreneur.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, McGregor’s fortune is estimated at $200 million. If he fights Crawford, that could jump significantly, especially if the Saudis show interest in financing those two bouts.
“I work here. I’m back on the mat. Hey, Conor. I’m back on the mat. Stay tuned baby,” Terence Crawford said on social media, sending a message to former UFC champion Conor McGregor.
If Crawford sticks to boxing, he will likely lose to one of the 154-lb fighters, such as Sebastian Fundora or Tim Tszyu, soon. He barely won his debut at junior middleweight on August 3 against Israil Madrimov.
