Teofimo Lopez says Gervonta Davis must “let go of his pride” for him to fight against him and other fighters. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) feels that Gervonta’s ego keeps him from getting the big fights against him and others in the sport.
Teo sounds like a popular star that Tank Davis is missing out on as he has been in a career freefall since his loss to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. Lopez’s career is on the verge of extinction after his recently signed three-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh ends in early 2026.
Teofimo is heading to the 147-lb division in October 2025 to take on IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. After likely losing, he’ll likely stick around for the February 2026 Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia 2-rematch loser to suit.
WBO light welterweight champion Teofomo may be projecting his mistakes onto Tank (30-0, 28 KOs, as he made a mess of his career by saying no to fights against Subriel Matias and avoiding clashes against George Kambosos Jr and Devin Haney takes place.
“He just has to let go of his pride and ego. Just play business, bro,” said Teofimo Lopez Fight Hub TV about whether Gervonta Davis can fight him and other fighters at 140. “You really want to fight us, that’s how we can make it happen. We all want to fight each other.”
Tank’s must-fight list
Ryan Garcia
Devin Haney
Vasily Lomachenko
Teofimo and Shakur Stevenson aren’t talented or popular enough to make it onto Gervonta’s coveted list of fighters who will have a chance to fight him. If Teo wasn’t washed out and ruined his career by turning fights, he could possibly get a fight with Tank. However, it is too late now.
Al-Sheikh’s gamble on Lopez
- Richardson Hitchins: IBF and WBO light welterweight unification bout, possible for April.
- Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis: October fight
- Winner or loser of Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia rematch. Teofimo will possibly fight one of them in February 2026.
