Teofimo appeals to DAZN, lazy to promote Shakur promotion

Teofimo Lopez took aim at the promotion surrounding his upcoming fight with Shakur Stevenson, who is calling on DAZN and The Ring to increase the visibility of the event.

Lopez posted on social media asking for promo theaters and in gym material to be released before the Jan. 31 game. The message was a clear push for more activity around a fight approaching a fight week with little public momentum.

The WBO light welterweight champion has been largely absent from the build-up thus far, leaving Stevenson to handle most of the media duties. It didn’t help. Stevenson repeated the same talking points in almost every interview, leaning on familiar lines about levels and exposure. The replay drained energy from the promotion and did little to attract casual interest.

Lopez’s frustration seems to be directed at the platforms as much as at his opponent. With the battle for DAZN pay-per-view at Madison Square Garden, the expectation is a steady release of visual content to sell out the event. It didn’t happen.

By directly calling out DAZN and The Ring, Lopez signaled that the current approach is not enough. His post framed the request as a simple solution. More footage. More presence. More urgency. With weeks to go, the promotional burden shifted back to the people who were paid to create it.
