Schoolboy Tien started his season on a high note, claiming a Top-5 win on his Australian Open debut with a massive upset of Daniil Medvedev en route to a fourth-round appearance.

Tien became the youngest man to beat a Top-5 player in Australian Open history with the win. At that time he was ranked 121st.
Ten months later, the 19-year-old from Southern California is finishing his season on a high as well. On Friday in Metz, France, he edged Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko to become the fourth-youngest finalist and the first American in Moselle Open history, 6-1, 6-4.
Tien will face Cameron Norrie in a battle of southpaws in Saturday’s final.
Norrie defeated Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 6-2. 6-4 to reach his 16th career ATP final and return to the Metz final for the second time in two years. The Brit is the first player to reach back-to-back finals in Metz since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (2011-2013).
The 38th-ranked American, who also reached the Beijing final this fall, joins Joao Fonseca as the second teenager to reach two ATP finals in 2025. He is 31st in the ATP live rankings as of Friday night.
Only Richard Gasquet (18 years and three months in 2004), Gael Monfils (19 years and one month in 2005) and Novak Djokovic (19 years and four months in 2006) have reached the Metz final at a younger age.
