It is difficult to talk about P · 790 of Taylormade without accepting the seismic shift it caused in the iron market. Before debuting the original P · 790 in 2017, the “player’s distance” was not really one thing.
I am not suggesting that P · 790 was the first, but it was undoubtedly the biggest contributor to the subsequent emergence and growth of the category.
Today?
The player’s distance is the second largest iron category in Golf, following only the improvement of the game. The Tayormade flag model is the talismanic piece of steel and chalk with which the other player is compared to the distance.
So when Taylormade releases a new P · 790, it’s a big job.
Entering its fifth generation, Tayormade says that 2025 p · 790 is faster, more forgiving and better than ever.
Bold request?
Of course, but completely premature for the course. Let’s dig a little deeper and take a look at the specific reasons why Taylormade says this P · 790 is even its best.
If not broken, do it better
Without a small measure, P · 790 has always flourished on the market because it controls numerous boxes for numerous types of players. It is a nonapological iron at a distance, but with each release, it looks less like one. Forgiving, but, again, not necessarily shouting “hit me badly, whatever, it’s good.” And while little (at least those who do not work for Taylormade) will suggest that it offers the pure feeling of butter of a muscle, P- · 790 infected by Speedfoam can keep its own with everything else in this category.
Because Taylormade has repeatedly mixed those performance elements within an aesthetically refined package, P · 790 has one of the broader achievements of every part of the market golf equipment today. While Tayormade lists the target audience as 5-15 handicaps, you will find it in bags of everyone from the close players of Scratch to the 20-year-old aspiration.
There is a real iron “tour”, as you will not find full sets of 790 in PGA Tour, but not unheard of for the long random p · 790 to find his way in a bag every time and again.
For 2025, P · 790 holds a lot, if not everyone, for those who want players with some key updates that have to keep it in mind (and demo lists) for players who buy the category.
New or improved
Here you have a quick summary of what is new and probably improved in 2025 p · 790.
Fake new face 4340m
For 2025, P · 790 gets a new facial material. The new face is 20 percent stronger than the previous model which allowed Taylormade to make it thinner. A thinner face is a faster face. In addition to more speed, 4340m creates a sweet spot that is 24 percent larger, which eventually makes the new model also more durable.
FLTD CG (Center of Gravity Fly)
Taylormade introduced flight CGS to the previous 790 p. With the new model, they have continued to refine internal geometries and use strategically located tungsten (up to 40 grams) to produce long, high -flight, high -flight cuffs, more thanks and trajectories More nice, Spinner more control at the note clubs.
Updated stabilization bars
The unique interior structures for each attic work to control vibrations, to tune frequencies and improve sound and feeling.

The estimates are that the 7-Hakuri is half a stronger degree (now 30 degrees) and 4-Hekuri (now 20) and PW (44) are a stronger degree.
It is the type of static change that will undoubtedly promote anger, but golf is a dynamic game and it’s hard to know a lot about nothing until you hit them. Also, the handcuff is supposed to be bent, so what is on the specific sheet should always be treated as the starting point.
P · 790 is still a distance car, but…
This is a story for golf clubs, so as you will expect, Taylormade says that the new 790 is faster (and longer).
The increased speed comes with a new counterfeit face of 4340m. The added strength of the material allowed the Tayormade engineers to make it thinner (and, extending, faster) than the previous model. More speed is equal to more distance with increased speed benefit being more durable across the face.
Keep in mind that the sweet 24 percent larger place is related to the fourth generation P · 790. If you are improving from a 2 or Gen 3, the change will be even greater.
The challenge, surely the problem, with the category of player distance is that hungry body models (including those filled with foam and other goos) are prone to hot spots. I will concrete anyone who has played a distance design playe’rs has experienced a random nuclear flying flying 20 meters longer than it should be. In my experience, a 190-Obury is not good for much more than the rights of boasting (and this is only if you leave the right part for white after green actions).
While I can never promise that it will never happen, Taylormade says the new face of 790 gives more sustainable speeds and starting conditions.
Translation: much distance, more predictability, less unpleasant surprises.
The felt factor: What benefits does speed have if it feels like a shit?
The speed is great, but if an iron feels clumsy, sounds thin or clumsy like a trash pan lid, the players will not bite. Well, some of you want, but we all have our borders.
With each repetition of P · 790, Tayormad has worked to improve sound and feeling. OG Speedfoam evolved into fast air. The previous generation brought us the stabilization bars of the individually optimized sound.
The latest iteration is built on those technologies with some up -to -date interior geometry designed to work specially with new facial material and provide feel even better.
Forgiveness without appearing strange
For all the technology found within P · 790, a good deal of its success in the market can be attributed to the items you can see. Pure (and often generally improved) images have always been part of the P · 790 story.
This has not changed.
We have talked about changes in topline and single, but as was the case with QI35 leaders, there are many subtle aesthetic changes in P · 790 that can go unnoticed.
The P · 790 logo has been moved to the center for which Tayormade says it gives the design a new attitude. The updated design contains a sprinkling of tournament satin with a mirror slab on the rear bar. The contrast is intended to suggest weighing the perimeter in detail. There is also an elaborate structure under the logo, which I think may suggest accuracy.
As a package, the updated design language aims to suggest a design that is attractive and aspirating. To no small extent, this has always been the secret sauce of P · 790.
Final Thoughts: For whom is it?
As it has always been so, the new 790 p · The new one has to work for a wide range of players from the close to the attackers up to the 15-plus handicaps who want distance, forgiveness and something to feel forged in a graceful package.
But if we are specific:
- If you play a game improvement iron but want something more compact and more refined, P · 790 fits the bill.
- If you are a single figure you are looking for an additional pop with some apologies without giving up a feeling too much, P · 790 is a textbook choice.
- If you are already a P · 790 player but you want the newest, best and most stable version, Taylormade says this is it.
After all: while I would never suggest it is the best option for any golf player, P · 790 remains the standard player’s distance iron. The 2025 version is faster, more forgiving and better than Evee Wll as it bears the appearance and DNA that made it an icon.
