Chelsea reportedly have a long list of transfer targets in defense this January, with up to seven names in mind at centre-back.
according to Simon PhillipsTomas Araujo and Antonio Silva from Benfica, Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi from Bournemouth, Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon, Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and Ronald Araujo from Barcelona.
Chelsea might even recall Trevoh Chalobah this January if they can’t do another deal, according to the report, with the Blues keen to ensure they have enough depth at the back.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca currently has a few options in defence, but Wesley Fofana is injured and doesn’t have the best overall fitness, while the likes of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile haven’t performed as expected.
Tosin Adarabioyo joined CFC in the summer and has done well when he arrived in the team, but he doesn’t seem to have won Maresca’s trust because he hasn’t been a regular.
What are Chelsea’s defensive targets?
Chelsea could do well to improve their depth and overall quality in the central position, with the likes of Silva, Diomande and Huijsen among the best young defenders in the game at the moment.
Enzo Maresca is WORRIED about two Chelsea players!
Both Silva and Araujo have impressed at Benfica and one imagines these are two players the club will struggle to keep hold of, having had their star names stolen from them so many times in the past, including, of course, Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea.
Guehi and Huijsen have the advantage of being proven in the Premier League so could be good options, but one imagines they could cost more to sign from rival English clubs.
Some Chelsea fans might also be quite pleased to recall Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.
The 25-year-old has performed well at Selhurst Park this season and hadn’t done too badly at Stamford Bridge either, looking a little unlucky to be offloaded in the summer.
