Tank surprised fans today by announcing that 2025 will be his last in the sport as he will retire at the end of the year. He says he will fight three times next year and then hang up the gloves. So, His Honor Turki is going to start a fight between Tank and Shakur; it will have to happen next year,
Turki’s master plan
For the Tank-Shakur fight to happen, Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) will need to defeat the undefeated Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) with #1 Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs). Those aren’t exactly wins for Shakur, who isn’t a puncher and doesn’t look like he’s built power-wise for the 135-lb division.
“The situation with Shakur is (William) Zepeda is injured. My plan is that Shakur is what I want to see in my life. I hope I have the time to see it. For Shakur, my plan is this fight (Floyd Schofield), then Zepeda, and then we’ll see if Tank wants to be in our show,” His Excellency Turki Alalshikh told Ariel Helwani’s. channel on YouTube about his interest in matching Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis.
“He officially asked me on social media for two Ferraris. I think the two Ferraris are a lot cheaper than what I pay for some fighters. If that’s the cost of the fight, why not?” Turki said of Tank Davis previously asking him for two Ferraris before he would consider fighting on one of his cards.
Tank would have to want the fight with Shakur, as he has often shied away from risky fights during his eleven-year professional career. He never fought Vasily Lomachenko or showed interest in fighting Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney. Tank is already rich and has enough money to live the rest of his life in his high-rise apartment in Baltimore. Will he agree to fight Shakur? You’d like to think so, but his avoidance record says otherwise.
